Time to Change Society's Views!

I recently saw the new Sandra Bullock movie, Premonition. I enjoyed trying to get one step ahead of the movie to figure it all out. However, one thing stuck in my mind that has really been bugging me.

About a third of the way through the movie, I realized that Sandra's character, Linda, who is a stay-at-home mom, is dressed in yet another pair of ill-fitting khakis, white tee, a sloppy sweater and hair pulled into a messy ponytail. Granted, this character was depressed and there were issues going on around her...a lot of issues... but it struck me that the costume designer for the movie was trying to dress Sandra to look like a "typical" American housewife.

Ladies, I say it is time to change society's views of what the "typical" housewife looks like! Throw out the ill-fitting khakis! Too many of us have gotten too lazy about taking care of ourselves. It is time to start dressing with more style and color! No wonder the character was depressed, she looked dull and sloppy!

Start taking care of yourself! Find the colors that look fabulous on you and wear them. Buy properly fitting clothes! Even if you are working on losing weight, don't wait to buy clothes until you are your "perfect" size! You will look and feel a mess wearing ill-fitting clothes! Not sure what styles suit your frame? Bring a trusted girlfriend along that has a great sense of style. She'll help you find items that emphasize your best assets.

The movie did have a happy "fashion" ending though. In the final scene, Linda is dressed in a great sundress and her hair is neatly adorned with a fabulous hair scarf. Her new look reflected her new hope for the future.

My hope for the future is that society stops thinking of housewives, stay-at-home moms... whatever title you want to give it, as frumpy. The only way this opinion is going to change is for you to join me in saying, "Enough of the sloppy khaki look!"
